It's rock day in room 3! The students had to identify various rocks using a variety of resources. They had a river rock mixture that they separated into different size rocks. The smallest they found was sand. We put the sand into water and watched how silt layered into the mixture. This is clay! Tomorrow we will play with clay to make sculptures.Mrs. Partykahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03897354331447043361noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448145545702994468.post-10723301397465338342017-02-26T07:28:00.001-06:002017-02-26T07:28:35.833-06:00Valentine's Day<table bgcolor="#ffffff" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">

As geologists it has been our job to note the properties of rocks. We put them in water and observed how erosion breaks apart rocks. We are learning about many different kinds of genres in second grade. We learned about fables in a unique way. We were put into groups and given a play script of a fable. We had to pick parts, design props, and practice so we our audience understood the character flaws and moral of the story. We heard many different stories and totally understood personification as our animal characters took on human qualities. It was a lot of fun!Mrs. Partykahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03897354331447043361noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448145545702994468.post-63059339541280159202017-02-05T12:59:00.000-06:002017-02-05T12:59:04.046-06:00Rolling Creations<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

We took all we learned about balance and motion to create runway systems that went far and with some added bumps and turns. It was a busy time of designing and redesigning to get the best results. Students were most impressed when a system traveled a lot of distance and had a dramatic finish like a jump into a bucket. We enjoyed watching everyone's creation.Mrs. Partykahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03897354331447043361noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448145545702994468.post-47531679583499349392017-02-05T12:54:00.000-06:002017-02-05T12:54:25.266-06:00Matt Wilhelm!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Judy Seigler is a retired u46 teacher and member of the Wayne Garden Club. Her club worked with the 6th grade class when they were ready to dig the butterfly garden in the back of our school. Mrs. Seigler came to our school to tell us about the different plants that attract butterflies. We learned the names of many of the plants and identified them by using pictures of the flowers. We also learned how important butterflies are to nature. We are anxious to observe our butterfly garden again once spring comes.

In second grade we are entomologist or scientists who study insects. Out first learning adventure was creating a habitat for a mealworm. We observed its growth from a mealworm, pupa, and beetle. We also had ants. waxworms, and butterfly larvae in our room to watch the lifecycle and compare the changes. Mr. Patterson has many beehives that he maintains and collects their honey! He taught us about the life cycle, behaviors, and the job of a beekeeper. We were amazed observing the part of his beehive he brought with live bees in it! Mr. Patterson also had us sample honey and pretend we were swarming! It was a great field trip brought to us!Mrs. Partykahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03897354331447043361noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448145545702994468.post-3823123204403987382016-08-28T17:38:00.000-05:002016-08-28T17:38:13.199-05:00Fun Friday<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8qUTHL-kegu0gqQMSuzTuvYciLwUAD9aFzrKIGVT2zN-YNdnhd96p3xrHXJW7i73z0R5wNt-EaOUBsxIDih12wNsIYZJN_lM9QPVM_a4kqqlWvEWxkcGZOsnDCF3NL1jMXpTaDMLzp68/s1600/P1050933.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8qUTHL-kegu0gqQMSuzTuvYciLwUAD9aFzrKIGVT2zN-YNdnhd96p3xrHXJW7i73z0R5wNt-EaOUBsxIDih12wNsIYZJN_lM9QPVM_a4kqqlWvEWxkcGZOsnDCF3NL1jMXpTaDMLzp68/s320/P1050933.JPG" width="240" height="320" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFHZ_c5q_B8xCrr9zidvi65F9aRHpAfk55TtgeKn8wfnulcuEoKF6fwWFMvi92MC_4zAffOWIyG9cyFLGvTUk5GtvbiCUrYCrwWwLJAbiO3zngiTMl0DBSWj7fQFpVo35XNW2Wcv8Wm0s/s1600/P1050936.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFHZ_c5q_B8xCrr9zidvi65F9aRHpAfk55TtgeKn8wfnulcuEoKF6fwWFMvi92MC_4zAffOWIyG9cyFLGvTUk5GtvbiCUrYCrwWwLJAbiO3zngiTMl0DBSWj7fQFpVo35XNW2Wcv8Wm0s/s320/P1050936.JPG" width="320" height="240" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcjc7W2eGiGkNC2PVpbTz_Y8fq8G2ogbh9xE1cRmDbkgAzb2k2hwPB0jANtZwCvFMinJ-0i9StOldvAATVIpUsn2pTktVwikGuOSy0BfxrSTfhOaSLpQXXk8ei70z2k57lJ3dbbaL11eE/s1600/P1050938.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjcjc7W2eGiGkNC2PVpbTz_Y8fq8G2ogbh9xE1cRmDbkgAzb2k2hwPB0jANtZwCvFMinJ-0i9StOldvAATVIpUsn2pTktVwikGuOSy0BfxrSTfhOaSLpQXXk8ei70z2k57lJ3dbbaL11eE/s320/P1050938.JPG" width="320" height="240" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKSZcfrNccE7s7pob9Kcpbp7inumrynboYKTq1yuU0eB_gXg3_15e5KDrAeiG4lfdplEB-iUPH2GEPAUEsIK83705XxwqUMcLf_i8HVtDLm0KpS_J3DhcFguU7BVVZXxMXD77uXSDrtoY/s1600/P1050940.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKSZcfrNccE7s7pob9Kcpbp7inumrynboYKTq1yuU0eB_gXg3_15e5KDrAeiG4lfdplEB-iUPH2GEPAUEsIK83705XxwqUMcLf_i8HVtDLm0KpS_J3DhcFguU7BVVZXxMXD77uXSDrtoY/s320/P1050940.JPG" width="320" height="240" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhITV0CW1NaCTudEeMc-3LQ4XV0K3exW94_tKku5oKdOQCz-bIvs6dPzbaeOFD8yxm45xodCdKHmLKGA2MrN0MuT37m3fPA7sTIKhtvfcx57Cbt5B3w2A7Qwak0KZpspEgcwzwmsx_wcS0/s1600/P1050944.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhITV0CW1NaCTudEeMc-3LQ4XV0K3exW94_tKku5oKdOQCz-bIvs6dPzbaeOFD8yxm45xodCdKHmLKGA2MrN0MuT37m3fPA7sTIKhtvfcx57Cbt5B3w2A7Qwak0KZpspEgcwzwmsx_wcS0/s320/P1050944.JPG" width="240" height="320" /></a>
The students earned their first Fun Friday! Every day one student is the captain for the day. If the students have a great day they win for the day. On Friday we see if the students or teacher won for a great week of cooperative and kind behavior. Today the students enjoyed their first win and free time outside! The students were learning about biographies. They chose a famous person they wanted to research. They had to write about their life in first person narrative so they could "become" that person for our wax museum. They created a museum display with a book, artifact, and covered cereal box with information about their character. When our museum opened visitors had to press and "on" button to make us come to life and share our story.Mrs. Partykahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03897354331447043361noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448145545702994468.post-33188641068490516812016-05-01T08:06:00.002-05:002016-05-01T08:06:40.406-05:00Channel 2 News!<table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0" bgcolor="#ffffff"><tr><td><a href="http://www.smilebox.com/play/4e4451774f546b314d7a593d0d0a&blogview=true&campaign=blog_playback_link&partner=smileboxl" target="_blank"><img width="420" height="330" alt="Click to play this Smilebox slideshow" src="http://www.smilebox.com/snap/4e4451774f546b314d7a593d0d0a.jpg" style="border: medium none ;"/></a></td></tr><tr><td><a href="http://www.smilebox.com?partner=smileboxl&campaign=blog_snapshot" target="_blank"><img width="420" height="46" alt="Create your own slideshow - Powered by Smilebox" src="http://www.smilebox.com/globalImages/blogInstructions/blogLogoSmilebox.gif" style="border: medium none ;"/></a></td></tr><tr><td align="center">Create your own <a href="http://www.smilebox.com/?campaign=blog_playback_link&partner=smileboxl" target="_blank">slideshow design</a></td></tr></table>
We had a wonderful opportunity to learn about the weather from a real meteorologist! Mary Kay Kleist came to our school to tell us how she became a meteorologist. Our class has become so talented when performing our reader theater plays that we are able to practice and perform one in the same day! Our group in the pictures did a fractured fairy tale version of Kind Midas. In this play everything the queen touches turns to chocolate! Soon we will be meteorologists in room 3 but first we have a lot to learn about air. Through many experiments and observations we have learned that air is a powerful force that can move things. We saw how air can create air resistance and compresses with pressure. Although we cannot see air, we know it makes up wind and changes the weather.Mrs. Partykahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03897354331447043361noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448145545702994468.post-43490939931922003262016-03-27T11:03:00.000-05:002016-03-27T11:08:17.515-05:00Point of View<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijF8edVFs0GdK7_SMN7M3jf6ETRF8nn1rwrXgbWBSRq7KDvG6HLZTSphA_aS6JtVbDc9rorupSJoZMKybEdLvdky4qh7Zq-EiodvoMhFICqIyFWusRgsFdS6DslIDuC2l0Uh8Ur0M21uE/s1600/untitled+%25282%2529.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijF8edVFs0GdK7_SMN7M3jf6ETRF8nn1rwrXgbWBSRq7KDvG6HLZTSphA_aS6JtVbDc9rorupSJoZMKybEdLvdky4qh7Zq-EiodvoMhFICqIyFWusRgsFdS6DslIDuC2l0Uh8Ur0M21uE/s400/untitled+%25282%2529.png" /></a></div>
Our class gave two thumbs up to the book <i>The One And Only Ivan</i> by Katherine Applegate. This story is told from the point of view of Ivan, a gorilla whose home for 27 years is a glass cage in the center of a mall. We feel every emotion Ivan has as he describes his lonely life without other gorillas or the ability to roam outdoors. His courage to free a baby elephant brought to the mall is exciting. It was hard for us to stop reading every day.

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math!
In our classroom we enjoy putting all of these into our learning! We have many opportunities to put our thinking into action and observe how and why things work. After learning about gravity and forces we designed roller coasters and competed against our classmates for the best creation. We tested and redesigned our rolling systems until we were confident we used the gravitational pull and slants in a way that made our marble travel the longest.Mrs. Partykahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03897354331447043361noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448145545702994468.post-12773985647068569062016-03-20T18:31:00.002-05:002016-03-20T18:31:33.762-05:00Writers Fair<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifCoxQq9YkJGcqqJmf1jQtmDMvsyKGgQ76E5634IllS8DVcU7WfmDEaIaUJrukc5E6RfqFdXUUV-b6ka7jzV0FJD5lw66kkMZRwbiyX5D44pe1j8SmRWQvWni1N_WVjtK10M1sRTV0X98/s1600/P1050754.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifCoxQq9YkJGcqqJmf1jQtmDMvsyKGgQ76E5634IllS8DVcU7WfmDEaIaUJrukc5E6RfqFdXUUV-b6ka7jzV0FJD5lw66kkMZRwbiyX5D44pe1j8SmRWQvWni1N_WVjtK10M1sRTV0X98/s400/P1050754.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPoM5zbej4DHJN03fr3jLzYewv5WfIojSLxyV-MmtRrzhkSVLlBcYVf_537mZzzTTarGSbzkgcGAUlRvNAJPG3K0xfe_NEqN1bHGbZp9GxG3iaIj4agX3i8u2UkOjdNkP0A87cICT1hV4/s1600/P1050755.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPoM5zbej4DHJN03fr3jLzYewv5WfIojSLxyV-MmtRrzhkSVLlBcYVf_537mZzzTTarGSbzkgcGAUlRvNAJPG3K0xfe_NEqN1bHGbZp9GxG3iaIj4agX3i8u2UkOjdNkP0A87cICT1hV4/s400/P1050755.JPG" /></a></div>
We got to show off our writing at the writers fair. Our animal research book and our home writing project were on display. We are very proud of our books!Mrs. Partykahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03897354331447043361noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448145545702994468.post-89304406719974036422016-03-20T18:29:00.000-05:002016-03-20T18:32:53.753-05:00Sharing Our Research<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij88FSKNqes7a1q0n6_7Ee5Q0AakPt7ZwGL62XaxHBXgYtf9nh1bEoajEe_eti1dMS5ygESuH7nenw3NLjNzNtXb0byRKNJUgnwtm4QotAYWVyfgFpSUeQbPGAZjU3w5t7wIIbqElplZw/s1600/P1050748.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEij88FSKNqes7a1q0n6_7Ee5Q0AakPt7ZwGL62XaxHBXgYtf9nh1bEoajEe_eti1dMS5ygESuH7nenw3NLjNzNtXb0byRKNJUgnwtm4QotAYWVyfgFpSUeQbPGAZjU3w5t7wIIbqElplZw/s400/P1050748.JPG" /></a></div>
We chose an animal that we would like to learn more about. We used many resources to learn what our animal looks like, how it behaves, what it eats, and their life cycle. We created an informational book about our animal and used many text features. We shared our learning with the class with a PowerPoint.Mrs. Partykahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03897354331447043361noreply@blogger.com0
